They accurately detect the thickness of solid materials, thin films, coatings and finished parts to ensure product uniformity and compliance with manufacturing standards. Different testing principles and structural designs create various types of thickness gauges. Each model has unique advantages and is developed for specific materials and working environments. Choosing the right thickness gauge helps enterprises improve detection efficiency and reduce product defect rates.

1. Mechanical Contact Thickness Gauges

Mechanical contact thickness gauges are the most traditional and stable measuring tools. They rely on physical contact between high-precision probes and the surface of the tested workpiece to obtain thickness data. 3. Coating Thickness Gauges

Coating thickness gauges are specially designed for surface layer detection. They use magnetic induction and eddy current principles to measure the thickness of non-metallic coatings on metal substrates. Common detection objects include paint layers, electroplating layers, oxide films and spray coatings.

5. X-ray Thickness Gauges

X-ray thickness gauges are professional online measuring devices for industrial production. They use X-ray penetration characteristics to detect the real-time thickness of materials during high-speed operation. They are mostly installed on rolling production lines for metal foils, plastic films and paper products.

With ultra-high testing speed and stable continuous working performance, they can feed back thickness data in real time to adjust production parameters. They effectively control the thickness tolerance of batch products and are widely used in large-scale industrial rolling and film manufacturing industries.

How to Select the Right Thickness Gauge

Users need to select equipment based on testing objects and working conditions. Rigid flat materials for conventional sampling can choose mechanical contact gauges. Internal thickness detection of closed workpieces and equipment corrosion inspection apply ultrasonic gauges. Surface coating testing requires dedicated coating thickness gauges. High-speed production lines and fragile materials are suitable for laser or X-ray non-contact thickness gauges.
